I’m Rick Butler — a lifelong musician, producer, and one-time grunge frontman turned TV composer. I’ve spent over 25 years scoring hit shows for Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, working with young stars like Ross Lynch, Sabrina Carpenter, Laura Marano, and Dove Cameron.

But what really lights me up? Helping students discover their own sound and abilities.

At Ricky’s Recording Room, I combine pro-level music production with one-on-one mentoring — right here in Thousand Oaks. Whether you’re looking to record a killer track, prep for an audition, or learn how to produce music from scratch, I’ll guide you through every step: from your first note to final mix.

Why I Started RRR

I’ve been obsessed with music since age 4 — piano lessons led to drums, sax, guitar, bass, even a chunk of time as the lead singer of an LA rock band. After earning a degree from the University of Colorado, I studied vocal power with legendary coach Elizabeth Sabine, composed music for TV, and built a home studio where everything finally came together.

I created RRR because I saw so many talented kids with big ideas, great tech, and no roadmap. They needed more than a lesson — they needed a place to create, explore, and grow.
